The commemorative shirt marks the 125th Anniversary of the Dutch football association, the KNVB. The new jersey is in a plain classic Dutch orange with a new, retro-styled, crest as a simple but bold white lion.
The new shirt sees a return to the classic look of showing the whole lion, along with the KNVB dates of 1889-2014. The official association’s detail of the crown appears on the inside of the collar and is a return to the style of the classic kits from the 70’s and 80’s.
On the players’ shirts, and personalised replicas, Dutch graphic designer and typographer Wim Crouwel has created a new font and numbering effect which is again a nod to Dutch national team from 1970’s.
The shorts feature Nike’s new slimmer cut and are in white, and the socks in orange. However, the Netherlands may be required to wear all orange during the actual World Cup 2014 tournament in Brazil.
