MK Dons revealed their new home shirt made by Sondico for the 2013/14 season, dubbed ‘All Mod Dons’. The new white home shirt is crisp, clean and sharp with a striking black and red stripe running down the centre. A red collar and red piping down the side and bottom of the arm maintains the strong and simple colour scheme that has become associated with the Milton Keynes Club. A note-worthy feature of the new shirt is a short black stripe between the shoulder blades which shows the year ‘2004’ to mark the controversial ‘birth’ of the Club.
Sondico, a local company formerly known as Vandanel, continue as the Club’s Technical Partner and have once again created a uniquely designed playing kit and will also provide training wear, as well as a range of leisure wear for the Club Superstore. It is reported that red will predominantly be the colour for the away kit, which will feature a white and black stripe, while the third kit is black with a red and white stripe. The 2013/14 goalkeeper strip comes in a bright yellow, royal blue or orange option. The Dons are set to return to black numbering on the back on the home and away kit and white numbering on the third kit. The Club remains committed to working with local companies to create a shirt Milton Keynes can be proud; as a result Title Partners and Olney-based Case Security remain as the shirt sponsor for next season.
What’s with the scooters you may ask? Well apparently, MK Dons Manager, Karl Robinson, who had a creative input in the shirt’s design, has likened the look of the kit to the mod subculture of the late 1960’s. So MK Dons thought it would be a good idea to borrow a Vespa from the Tin Soldiers Scooter Club in Bletchley for the official photo launch. Dons boss Robinson said: “It’s very ‘mod’ and very Paul Weller to some extent and I just think it’s got a very iconic look to it. We went very traditional last year with an all white kit with the stadium on the front but for the first time ever we’ve got the year that we born, ‘2004’ so when we reach 2014 it’s got a very symbolic meaning. “It’s got a dashing black and red stripe through the middle which is completely different to every team in the country and it’s very ‘us’. I personally believe it will be our best selling shirt.”
