Mesut Özil Arsenal complete record signing from Real Madrid

Ozil joins ArsenalArsenal have completed the £42.4m signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid to break their club transfer fee record. The German international midfielder is reported to have signed a five-year deal.

The BBC Sport website reports the 24 year old saying “I am thrilled to be joining a club of the stature of Arsenal and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League.”

“It will be great for my own personal development as a player and I am particularly looking forward to working with Arsene Wenger,” Ozil told

“From our negotiations it is clear the club has huge ambition and I look forward to being part of an exciting future.”

We understand Ozil has been given the number 11 shirt for the 2013/14 season.

Germany international Ozil joined Real Madrid from Werder Bremen three years ago and has now left the Spanish giants following the arrival of Gareth Bale.
